Trial Attorney & Former U.S. Naval Aviator
Experience Matters.
In the Courtroom,
in the Cockpit.
For 29 years Daniel D. Barks has represented victims of aviation crashes, wrongful death, and catastrophic injuries across the United States and around the globe. As a former Naval Aviator, Dan Barks brings a unique perspective to every case — one shaped by varied service for the Navy and government and nearly three decades in courtrooms across the country.
Contact UsThe Pilot's Perspective
Forty years ago, a significant number of attorneys had real experience as pilots. Those numbers have dwindled, and the number of former military pilots practicing as attorneys has declined even further. Military training provides insight that cannot be replicated in a classroom. Naval Aviation offers a deep understanding of aircraft physics, mechanics, and the demands of flight operations — knowledge few attorneys possess. Being a military pilot does not confer legal skill, but it provides a perspective and an edge that others simply do not have. In a courtroom, the slightest advantage can change an outcome.
Experience
Barks Law handles complex, high-profile, and high-stakes litigation — cases discussed on news outlets and in boardrooms across the United States and around the globe. Dan Barks has served as lead counsel in over 50 commercial, general aviation, and military crash matters over the last three decades, and continues to do so. The firm has also fought for victims of governmental negligence through the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), litigating cases ranging from air traffic control negligence to the administrative failure that contributed to the mass shooting at Sutherland Springs Church in Texas. While the firm has experience resolving cases through mediation or settlement, it is most at home in the courtroom.
Crew Concept
Barks Law believes in staffing every case properly. Dan Barks is Of Counsel to the Ammons Law Firm, headquartered in Houston, Texas — a relationship that gives clients access to a team of a dozen supporting attorneys, including Rob Ammons, one of the most decorated plaintiff's trial attorneys in the country. When Barks Law and the Ammons Firm work a case together, Dan does not refer it out. He remains lead or co-lead counsel throughout.
